User Interface and User Experience Designer

The Xandros UI Design team in Ottawa is currently looking to fill the position for User Interface and User Experience Designer.  Xandros produces a diverse set of products ranging from consumer electronics device software that runs on  Netbooks, MIDs, and Automotive Infotainment System to complex enterprise email and collaboration solutions. In addition, Xandros also produces large enterprise and data center management tools that runs across thousands of servers running Windows Server, Linux, or different favours of UNIX.

The successful candidate must possess a diverse technical and design background that can apply reasoning and gather requirements in all three different product areas to come up with the appropriate user interfaces, the simplest and most intuitive user interaction, and the best user experience while meeting all the complex requirements.

Additional Requirements are:

  • Advance expertise in Windows User Interface standards
  • Advance expertise and deep experience in touch screen UI and Interaction design.
  • Good understanding of Windows Server environments
  • Good understanding of Linux and UNIX Server environments
  • Good understanding of heterogeneous data center operations
  • Good understanding of Exchange, Sharepoint, and other email and data collaboration server software.
  • Good understanding email client and modern smart cell phones with email capabilities.
  • Thorough understanding of different wireless networks.
  • Experience in Automotive software design and requirements gathering.
  • Experience in User Interface design on small form factors and screen sizes.
  • Experience in designing mobile applications.
  • Self motivated and able to work both independently and in conjunction with team members and different product groups.
  • Fast learner with strong analytical and prototyping skills.
  • Experience in analysis and review of product designs from a usability perspective while solving complex problems related to user interaction designs and software application designs.
  • Knowledge of user interface design principles and current usability research, human factors, usability methodologies, industry standards and trends, and platform standards.
  • Minimum 3 years of HCI Design in Windows-based applications.
  • Photoshop, Flash, and Dreamweaver (web editing) skills.
  • Strong documentation skills
