Official Xandros Books to be Freely Distributed Under
Creative Commons License
BOSTON, MA, LinuxWorldExpo February 14, 2005 — Xandros, the leading developer of easy-to-use Linux solutions, today announced an agreement with independent computer book publisher No Starch Press to create official books on the Xandros line of Linux-based desktop and server products. The bound books will be available from major retailers, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The titles will be published under a Creative Commons License permitting free non-commercial distribution in electronic form. The authors of the series will work closely with Xandros developers, and the Xandros Quality Assurance team will review the manuscripts prior to publication to ensure technical accuracy and completeness.
“The Xandros Linux distribution makes it really easy for people new to Linux to make the switch from Windows. We see a market need for quality guidebooks to help users to make the transition, with Xandros as their foundation,” said William Pollock, Founder and Publisher of No Starch Press. ”This book series fits perfectly with our overall mission of offering informative titles that are ‘fluff-free’ and easy to follow.”
“No Starch Press is quick to spot emerging trends and its books are lively and engaging,” said Andreas Typaldos, Xandros CEO. “We are especially pleased that these official Xandros titles will be freely available in electronic form, in addition to the hard copies readers may purchase through traditional retail outlets.”
The first title in the series, Linux Made Easy, is by Rickford Grant, the best-selling author of Linux for Non-Geeks. It will include numerous tips and tricks for using the latest version of the Xandros Desktop OS, featuring Firefox, Thunderbird, and free Skype-to-Skype worldwide calling. The bound book will include the Xandros Open Circulation OS on CD. Additional titles on the Xandros consumer and enterprise products will follow.
